What is Acid Rain?

Acid rain is precipitation, such as rain, snow, or sleet, containing relatively high concentrations of acid-forming chemicals,as the pollutants from coal smoke, chemical manufacturing, and smelting, that have been released into theatmosphere and combined with water vapor: harmful to the enviornment.

Challenge Question

Can limestone help reduce the effects of acid rain on our environment?

Pros and Cons of acid rain

  • We need factories to manufacture goods and acid rain is an unfortunate side effect.
  • reduces green house gases
  • believed to slow down global warming

  • Pollutes lakes
  • Destroys trees
  • Destroys monuments
  • Health problems such as asthma and bronchitis.

Possible Solutions

Research was done on the possible ways to reduece the effects of acid rain in our community. We found a great way to reduce the effects by putting limestone in the river and dissolves the acid. It only works to reduce the acid in bodies of water such as: lakes, rivers, ponds, and streams. It isn't the best way to stop it but it helps the enviornment quite a bit.

If you could help us by taking this survey, it would be much appreciated.
